I will be looking at the graphic nature of the original tale and how it was changed for the Disney movie version. I will be examining how the messages about gender roles and sexuality evolved along with these changes.

Thesis:
While the endings of the Hans Christian Andersen and Disney versions of "The Little Mermaid" are quite disparate, both versions carry very similar messages about the role of the female in society. Disney "cleaned up" the tale and eliminated the gore and sexual messages of the original tale, but it was done in such a way that helped to retain the same implications about gender roles.

What fairy tale are you considering for the visual media project?

The Little Mermaid is an excellent fairy tale for the final paper. It has evolved a lot in recent decades.

Excellent topic! Which sources are you considering?

This is a good thesis! As you revise, think about ways to make this more specific: HOW does Disney maintain the gender roles of Andersen's literary tale?
