Page history last edited by Rick Bridges 10 years ago

Name: Richard, though I prefer Rick, Bridges

Majors: Linguistics and German, possibly pursuing a dual degree

Minor: undecided, though possibly computer sciences

E-mail: ee0367@wayne.edu if you need to colloborate with me in more real time shoot me an E-mail, I check at least 1 time a day, and I'll get you a more real time solution.

Brief Intro: I've been at wayne for 5 years now looking at graduating next year, possibly transferring to EMU. Aside from that I'm a gamer and a general computer nerd, I prefer Sci-fi and fantasy books, movies, and games to most other types.

Fairy Tales in Visual Media Project (Click for pdf of Paper):

Fairy Tale: Puss in Boots(ACFT)

I would like to compare Chareles parrault's version of puss in boots to the shrek version.

Puss In Boots Dore Image 1

I'm still looking for some really good images but i think these ones might be good conversation pieces.

Final Paper (Rough Draft) (Final Version)

Fairy Tale: Puss in Boots vs Shrek+New Puss in Boots

Topic: I'll be looking at the comments on capitalism and their shifting opinion through the ages with various puss in boots stories. If i can i'd like to find a few more versions of puss in boots to see how they might interract with perraults or the modern tale as told through out Shrek 2 and 3 and the movie Puss in Boots

 A Couple of resources:

Investigating Shrek: Power, Identity, and Ideology (book)

New Spirit of Capitalism by Boltanski and Chiapello ( http://link.springer.com.proxy.lib.wayne.edu/article/10.1007%2Fs10767-006-9006-9?LI=true#page-1 )

The Rhetoric of Harry Robinson's "Cat With the Boots On" ( http://muse.jhu.edu.proxy.lib.wayne.edu/journals/mosaic/v044/44.2.neuhaus.html )

As I mentioned before i would like to find a few different variants of the story aside from perraults and the modern tales through out the "Shrekverse"

I can only see one of the images, but it's a great picture. I'll be interested in seeing how you compare this with the literary text.

What fairy tale are you analyzing for the final paper?

These look like great sources! And I like the idea of exploring this tale and it's portrayal of capitalism/economic systems!
