These are the two pictures I thought were expressive enough to be worth writing about. I am not decided upon which one I will analyze for my paper, but I found the second image really interesting especially because it is a modern interpretation of a classic fairytale.

For my final paper I would like to analyze Hansel and Gretal. I would like to analyze the transformation of the female protagonist (her role, character, etc) and how this reflects a change in society (views, exptations, etc).

Thesis: Fairy tales have had a socializing function throughout the development of the genre. There has been particular emphasis on establishing gender roles for men and women, but the female gender roles in particular has been well defined. In analyzing various media based on the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" there has been a transformation in the representation of the female gender role and this is a reflection of the changes in society.

This is a good working thesis! As you develop it, consider making more specific claims about the transformation of Gretel's role (What does this change reflect? Why is it significant?).

Yes I was thinking of describing how Gretel's role has gone from strictly passive to active within contemporary versions of the tale. Then I was going to relate this to the shift in societal expectations of women since the feminist era, such as how women are now expected to take (more) active roles in determining their futures and the roles they will play in society as well as the family unit (i.e. less emphasis on women being homemakers and more emphasis on freedom to have careers, interests, etc outside the family unit.)
