Final Paper ideas

Page history last edited by Alyson Melnik 10 years ago

For my final paper I am thinking about discussing Cinderella like I did for my midterm paper or possibly starting a new topic on the story of The Little Mermaid

*I've decided that I want to continue with my idea from my midterm paper and talk about the sexualization of Cinderella and the how the ideas of beauty are shown through her in the different time period the story was adapted in.

The sources I have found regarding the sexuality and beauty ideals that come along with the ever changing versions of Cinderella:

For Whom the Shoe Fits.pdf

Innocent Initiations Female Agency in Eroticized Fairy Tales.pdf

Domesticating Dreams in Walt Disney's Cinderella.html

Bronte's Jane Eyre and the Grimms' Cinderella.pdf

Thesis: Cinderella has become the ultimate standard of fairy tales and princesses, thanks to today's society. Along with being the face of the true princess she has also become the representation of what the picture of beauty is to the particular society shown by the ever changing sexuality appealing visual of Cinderella.

You are welcome to do either (continuing your analysis from your midterm is great)!

I like this topic (good focus)! And the scholarship looks great!

This is really interesting! You're arguing that Cinderella has (continued) to evolve to meet (U.S.?) standards of female beauty? As you revise, think of ways to make this opening statement even more specific (i.e. What is sexualized in images of Cinderella? Her clothing? Her figure? Or is the ideal more than sexual - are there racial and class implications in Cinderella images in the U.S.?)
